A quiet time

Image
There really isn't very much to do on weekends.  We haven't been out of the community for 5 weeks.  So sorry about the boring content this time. Next weekend we are heading to Kunanarra for the long weekend. Its 7 hours away...the closest large town. Well, here is the Balgo Hilton....This once was a 'motel' type accommodation for visitors.   Good sense of humour!! We do home visits to our families as we don't see them very often.  For this visit I have cooked Lasagna or Spaghetti Bolognese for each of the families.  I have done 10 with about 5 more to do!!  I've never cooked so much meat  in my Vegetarian Kitchen :( I had a 'Soap Sunday' where I invited the teachers and volunteers to learn how to make soap.  This was a fun afternoon I am loving the smell of the soap in my house as it takes 5 weeks to cure and be ready.  So I get the benefit of the aroma before I give them away. School Holidays Broome

Off to Broome for the April School holidays This is the turnoff to Balgo from the Tanami Track.  From here it is 30km to Balgo, you couldn't miss this turnoff sign!!! 600 km on dirt/gravel/rock roads and the tyre punctured on the bitumen!!! When we took the car back to Halls Creek to get the puncture fixed we saw another tyre that had a screw in it.  So luckily we were able to get both tyres fixed and then it was on our way 43 degrees and it felt like it! Along the Tanami Track there is a turn off to the Wolfe Creek Crater.  It was made 300,000 years ago and it is the second biggest crater in the world. I was pleased that I hadn't seen the film Wolfe Creek when we visited this area!! From Halls Creek we travelled up Duncan's Rd which was another very bumpy gravel road. We stopped at Palm Springs which was an oasis in a very hot desert! Further along Duncan's Rd was Sawpit Gorge.  Another amazing Kimberley go...

I picked Jeff up from Halls Creek on Saturday. He was spending a week in the community. He came into the classroom every day to help.  On our last day we had a carnival at school. There was face painting, biscuits 🍪, slip and slide and much more.  The children lined up to throw water bombs at us. Jed is my classroom assistant and he copped the brunt of the ‘bombs’ One of my boys winding up with his missile!!                                   Jeff was welcomed to the community at Church. The church elders were giving him a blessing.  I was lucky to have Jeff mow my grass. No slithering friends were encountered!!! TRIP TO COUNTRY  Cathy,  a community elder told us the Dream time story of the Rough tailed Lizard and the Echidna.  Here I am making Puff paint. The kids enjoyed using this.  At lun...
