A quiet time

Well, here is the Balgo Hilton....This once was a 'motel' type accommodation for visitors.

Good sense of humour!!

We do home visits to our families as we don't see them very often.  For this visit I have cooked Lasagna or Spaghetti Bolognese for each of the families.  I have done 10 with about 5 more to do!!  I've never cooked so much meat  in my Vegetarian Kitchen :(
I had a 'Soap Sunday' where I invited the teachers and volunteers to learn how to make soap.  This was a fun afternoon
I am loving the smell of the soap in my house as it takes 5 weeks to cure and be ready.  So I get the benefit of the aroma before I give them away.

Clearly there is not much to do in the community on weekends!!!!

Each Thursday, we cook something.  The plan is to show the children how easy it is to make healthy food and to give them a taste of some food they would not have had before.  The Choc Chip biscuits above do not quite fit the healthy choices menu.  …………… but Cookie Monster says 'This is a SOMETIMES food'
Once again, the coconut Ice does not fit the healthy menu....however, it was Mothers Day and the children made this and took a small pack home to their Mums/Aunties/Grandmas.  On my home visits I found out that some of it did not make it home!!!  It was a new taste for the kids who have never seen, heard or tasted something this delicious!!!

Yes, I know, you are all over the sunsets, but every night we have such a red sky and I never tire of it

The children were showing their beautiful handwriting and the stickers that were sent from Girton.

The bread they sell here at the store is not very nice as it is very sweet.  The option is Helga's at $7.00 a loaf.  I thought I would have a go at making a seed bread.  It looks so much better than it tasted.  Oh well, back to the drawing board.

In first term I sorted the library back into Picture Story, Non Fiction and Novels.  The library had not been used properly for a couple of years.  It took soooooo long, but I am so pleased at the result. (Thanks Jeff for the help with the Non Fiction..... I told him there were football and cricket books there!!!)
The mess on the floor is replacing the hanging bags for Big Books etc;  The plastic hooks get brittle and break.  Of course this is all in my own interest as I love taking the kids to the library. I also need to use the Big Books for literacy.
(The cardboard barrier is to stop the children from running from the library into the offices!!)

The local boys have football training every night after school.  The red dirt/stones seem not to pose a problem for the shoeless players.  They do tend to try and stay on their feet though as falling over is not desirable.

We had a whole school photo taken by the STOP team.  They came into the school to screen all of the children for cuts, Scabbies, Ringworms etc:  It is really important to get on top of these infections as many of the children have a heart condition from untreated infections.
(I'm bending down 2nd from right in the black dress)
A big bunch of very happy kids...such a joy to teach them.
