Wow, it’s September!!

Thanks Girton, I use the RULER program in my classroom.  The children enjoy plotting their feelings each morning.

A few of us headed out to Halls Creek for a long weekend.  Due to being in a remote location we are given a 4 day weekend after week 5.  It is so nice to go to the 'Big Smoke'...Halls Creek for some R and R.  We had a lovely tea at the Kimberley Hotel.  It was here that I met this lovely lady called Jennifer.  Her story was so sad, but her resilience and positivity made her a very strong woman.  Some of the stories I hear are heart breaking but the spirit of these people give me hope.

This white rock formation is called 'The Great Wall of China'.  Having seen and walked on the real Great Wall, I can say this is nothing like it, but beautiful in its own right.
This is a little oasis in the desert.  It is called Palm Springs, and at 35 it was a nice swimming spot......free of crocs!!

Our poor little Xtrail showing the affects of a trip up the Tanami, the red dirt that infiltrates every orifice of everything!  If only the red dirt was confined to the outside!!!

This is part of the ruins of Old Halls Creek, that is about 20 km up the Duncan.  The town was moved when they ran out of water many years ago.

This photo is only a moment in time!!  The quietness and stillness only lasted as long as the photo took.  The Year 4,5 and 6 kids were having a sleep over school due to their early departure the next day for a football carnival in Halls Creek. The drive to Halls Creek is 3 hours.  We have to have the children sleep over when its an early start as we would never get them/find them in the morning.

This was much more like it.  The kids had a great time finding and making a bed for the night.  Not much sleep was had

One of my kids loves to make bows.  I took the whole class out to make a bow.  We had a great time finding the right stick.

The archers with their finished bows.

This was the football final played at Balgo recently.  Balgo won the cup from 4-5 other desert communities.  Our population doubled during the 5 days of the carnival.  As you can see, some of the players wore boots, others just socks or bare feet.

Just a cheeky sunset!!

Our school is having a NAIDOC week celebration next week.  The community celebrated NAIDOC week in the school holidays.  Here we are about to have a water blessing and a smoking ceremony. A water blessing is where one of the church elders takes a gum tree branch dipped in water.  She sprinkles water over everyone's heads.  This is also done in church each week.  When its hot, it quite refreshing!!!

This week in cooking.  We made hedgehog for Fathers/Grandfathers/Carers/Special persons day.
The kids loved this and I'm not sure how much of it made it home to their special person!!

The children made a Fathers Day card with a dot inspired handprint.  The kids love to paint.

Classio was very proud of his artwork for his Grandfather.

Ciarna has done an amazing job for her Dad

Why should the kids have all the fun.  I enjoyed  expressing my inner artist!!

When we have visitors to our community we often head out to the lookout to watch the sunset. We  are a large group when we add the visitors and the 2 priests.

Some of my crazy kids

On this morning and many lately we have had a cold, cold wind coming from the South (thanks for sharing).  The kids never dress for cold weather so blankets were handy.

Kids enjoy lighting fires.  This fire was just behind my house on the creek.  The fires never go very far as there is not a lot of fuel...….luckily.
